Federal Solar Tax Credit

Yes, sailboats can qualify for the federal solar tax credit if they meet certain requirements.
Eligibility
The boat must be registered in the United States
The boat must have a galley, bunk, and head
The boat must be a “dwelling unit”, which includes houseboats, mobile homes, and RVs
The boat must be a primary or secondary home, or vacation home
The solar system must be purchased with cash or financing that isn’t a lease
Tax credit details
The credit can cover up to 30% of the total system cost
The credit can be claimed retroactively for systems put into service after January 1, 2006
The credit applies to solar panels, wiring, batteries, inverters, charge controllers, parts, and labor
The credit can be claimed for both residential and commercial systems
Additional considerations
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 extended the tax credit through 2034
